Weed Physiology

Weed Physiology lab is certified to perform experiments using 14C radiolabeled compounds. This lab is also equipped with a biological oxidizer, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid scintillation counter (LSC), Centrivap and an N2-Evap system for concentration of organic tissue extracts, a phosphorimager, to physically trace the location of radiolabeled compounds.

Molecular Biology

Molecular biology laboratory is equipped with a high-speed refrigerated centrifuge, bench top refrigerated microfuges, a laminar flow hood and incubator/shakers, an ultracold (-80C) freezer, -20C freezer, several refrigerators, one MJ Research tetrad and two single 96-well (Bio-Rad) thermal cyclers for PCR, and qPCR, and variable wavelength spectrophotometer.

This laboratory also has several DNA/RNA gel apparatus with power packs (Bio-Rad) and a gel imaging system to perform DNA and RNA extractions and visualize the gels. This lab is also equipped with a plate reader for enzyme assays and a walk-in cold room for conducting s protein extractions, enzyme purifications or plant tissue extracts.

Molecular Cytogenetics

The lab is equipped with a fluorescent microscope and related accessories needed to perform molecular cytogenetics analyses.

Greenhouse & Herbicide Application Facility

Jugulam's lab also has a greenhouse, walk-in growth room and several controlled growth chambers. Furthermore, the laboratory also has access to a track sprayer to conduct herbicide dose-response experiments.
