History of the eUpdate
The Extension Agronomy eUpdate is a weekly digital publication distributed every Thursday year-round, with occasional special issues covering timely, emergent topics. The eUpdate delivers current, research-based information on a wide range of agronomic and agricultural issues relevant to farmers, crop consultants, extension agents, agribusiness professionals, and researchers interested in Kansas and regional agriculture. While the publication is primarily focused on Kansas, it has a diverse readership that spans the United States and includes international subscribers.
This online resource is led by the K-State Department of Agronomy, with regular content contributions from other departments, including Plant Pathology, Entomology, Animal Science, and Agricultural Economics.
The first issue of the eUpdate was published on September 29, 2005, and the publication reached a major milestone with its 1000th issue on April 18, 2024. The original concept was developed by now-retired K-State agronomists Jim Shroyer and Dan Devlin. Steve Watson served as the founding editor from Issue #1 through Issue #648. In 2017, Kathy Gehl, a K-State Agronomy alumna, became editor with Issue #649 and continues to serve in that role.
Each eUpdate and its individual articles are also shared on X (formerly Twitter) via @KStateAgron to reach a broader audience in real time.
