2026 Tribune Wheat Field Day – June 9
All are invited to attend the 2026 Wheat Field Day hosted by Kansas State University’s Southwest Research-Extension Center in Tribune on Tuesday, June 9. The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. Mountain Time at the headquarters location, one mile west of Tribune on K-96.
The field day will provide updates on current wheat research and production issues affecting western Kansas, including wheat variety performance, wheat streak mosaic, wheat stem sawfly, and wheat’s role in dryland crop rotations.
The program will feature more than 40 wheat varieties included in this year’s replicated performance trial. Discussions will focus on variety characteristics, yield and quality performance, disease and pest resistance, and how different varieties fit western Kansas production systems.
Presenters will also discuss the continued challenges associated with wheat streak mosaic and management considerations for reducing the spread of these damaging viruses through variety selection and production practices.
There will also be an update on wheat stem sawfly, an insect pest that has steadily expanded across eastern Colorado and is moving closer to Kansas wheat production areas. The presentation will cover current observations and what producers should monitor in their fields.
Additional discussions will focus on long-term dryland crop rotation studies and how wheat performs across varying rotation and tillage systems.
Speakers for the event include:
- Lucas Haag, Agronomist-in-Charge, Southwest Research-Extension Center–Tribune
- Jeanne Falk Jones, Northwest Area Agronomist
- Anthony Zukoff, K-State Extension Entomologist
There is no cost to attend.
