About the Lecturer | Raymond Hunt, PhD

Dr. Raymond Hunt presented the 2010 annual Kling Anderson Range Science Lectureship on March 3, 2010. The title of Dr. Laird’s presentation was “New Ways to Use an Old friend: Application of Hyperspatial Remote Sensing for Rangeland and Agricultural Management.”

Dr. Hunt is a Research Physical Scientist with the USDA-ARS Hydrology and Remote Sensing Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland. He has also served as Associate Editor of Agronomy Journal since 2007, and in 2008 received the Excellence in Technology Transfer Award from the Federal Laboratory Consortium. He received his Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Michigan.

His current research interests include detection of invasive plant species using remote sensing, estimation of canopy water content using shortwave infrared reflectance, use of a combination of remote sensing and modeling to determine carbon balance of vegetation, and use of Unmanned Airborne Vehicles (UAV's) as an alternative platform for agricultural remote sensing.

This lectureship honors the name of Kling L. Anderson and commemorates his many years of outstanding service to Kansas State University, the people of the State of Kansas, and the range management profession worldwide.
