Agronomy Undergraduate Program

Agronomy is the study of plants and soils and their environment. Agronomic science and technology are basic to sustaining the world's food supply and a quality environment. Career opportunities are excellent as agronomists meet the world's food and environmental issues. Diverse and rewarding career opportunities await graduates in agronomy. Agronomy provides many opportunities for basic and applied research. Demands for crop production systems which emphasize environmental safety, minimum soil erosion, ground water quality, decreased inputs, and provide adequate economic returns are one area of future need. Molecular biology and biotechnology have sparked a revolution in new approaches to genetically improve cultivated plants. Developing countries looking to improve their production of food and fiber provide rewarding career opportunities in international agriculture.
