Facilities

State-of-the-art laboratories, greenhouses, dryland and irrigated experiment fields throughout Kansas provide excellent facilities for agronomic research and education. Laboratories are well equipped with modern instrumentation for research and teaching in crop physiology, ecology, and production. Extensive controlled environment chambers and greenhouses enable plant studies throughout the year under a wide range of conditions.

Dryland and irrigated field research facilities are available at two Agronomy Farms near campus, at four Agronomy Experiment Fields and five Agricultural Research Centers in the state. Precipitation, soils, and other conditions vary greatly, and cooperation with scientists at these locations is excellent. A large inventory of field and plot research equipment is available, and vehicle support permits transporting specialized equipment to the locations when needed.

Adjunct facilities that can be utilized for research and education include the USDA Wind Erosion Research Unit, USDA Hard Winter Wheat Genetics Research Unit, USDA Center for Grain and Animal Health Research, Agronomy Soil Testing Laboratory, American Institute of Baking, Weather Data Library, and the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center.
