Biography & Education

Meghnath Pokharel recently completed Master of Science in Agriculture from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He was working on a research project "Combined effect of temperature and calcium application on reducing naturally occurring straighthead disorder in different rice varieties under field conditions” under the supervision of Dr. Bihu Huang. A native of Nepal, Mr. Pokharel received his undergraduate degree in Agriculture at Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Tribhuvan University.

Recently, Mr. Pokharel was admitted to the Graduate School of Kansas State University. He will be joining to Department of Agronomy for a PhD degree. Dr. Krishna Jagadish will be his major advisor. He will be working on a research project “Physiological, genetic and molecular characterization of canola exposed to heat and drought stress conditions in the growth chambers and field conditions”. The objectives of this research will be to explore genetic diversity for heat stress (day, night and combined day and night) tolerance during two critical stages (flowering and pod filling) which defines yield and oil content of winter canola and to quantify the combined impact of drought and heat stress on winter canola. During this research, he will be closely working with the canola breeding team at Kansas State University.
